How Cybersecurity Impacts Businesses in 2022

With cybersecurity and cybersecurity breaches in the news, it is no surprise that cybersecurity impacts businesses in 2022. With new events coming out daily about what cybersecurity has impacted business-wise, we will review five cybersecurity impact areas that pose a threat to business.

1. Website Vulnerabilities

The average website vulnerability continues to increase annually because of coding errors or improperly configured servers. In 2017 alone there were over 4 billion vulnerabilities found by organizations such as Symantec, which was a significant increase from 2015. This insecurity leads to cyber criminals being able to exploit security holes without any resistance or hindrance.

2. IoT Cybersecurity Attacks

With the rise in connected devices, cybersecurity attacks have increased as well. For example, cybersecurity research company Fortinet found that cybersecurity attacks on the IoT totaled 5,855 in 2016 and this number is expected to be much higher by 2022.

3. Ransomware Cybersecurity Attacks

Ransomware cybersecurity attacks have increased because our society has moved progressively more into a digital world and we store more of our data online. In 2015, cybersecurity researchers estimated 2 million ransomware samples had been discovered as compared to 16 million in 2016. With ransomware cybersecurity attacks increasing at such a rapid rate, it is necessary for businesses to protect themselves from these forms of attack.

4. Growing Cybersecurity Skills Gap

According to a survey conducted by ISACA, a nonprofit cybersecurity advocacy group, by 2022 the cybersecurity skills gap will exceed 1.8 million cybersecurity jobs. With cybersecurity constantly growing in importance, business owners should take measures to protect their business from being hacked.

5. Unsecured Business Apps

Approximately 65% of enterprises have apps that are not secure enough to withstand hackers wanting access to an organization’s data. This is another reason why cybersecurity impacts businesses because if a company has unsecure apps it makes it easier for cybercriminals to exploit vulnerabilities within them and gain access to sensitive information. As seen above, cybersecurity impacts businesses in 2022 because cybersecurity breaches are continually increasing at rapid rates while organizations are struggling to keep up with cybersecurity best practices.

In conclusion, cybersecurity impacts businesses in 2022 because cybersecurity has become such a prevalent topic and cybersecurity skills, cybersecurity attacks and cybersecurity vulnerabilities are continuously increasing. Cybersecurity is not going away any time soon and it is necessary for business owners to take cybersecurity seriously for the good of their business.
